How it's cooked (3 steps)
- Fry onion in oil until golden, add turmeric and meat and brown well, then stir in tomato paste and cook briefly.
- Add split peas, dried limes pierced with a fork, saffron water, cinnamon, salt, and enough water to barely cover, then simmer for 1.5 hours until the stew thickens and the peas are soft.
