How it's cooked (8 steps)

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F with a rack positioned in the upper third; line a large rimmed sheet pan with foil.
  2. On the sheet pan, toss the asparagus with 1 tablespoon olive oil, half the salt, and half the pepper; spread in a single layer and roast until bright green and just starting to soften, about 8 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, pat the shrimp dry and toss in a bowl with the remaining olive oil, salt, and pepper.
  4. In a small skillet over medium heat, melt the butter; add the garlic and red pepper flakes and cook, stirring, until fragrant but not browned, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the lemon zest.
  5. Push the asparagus to the sides of the pan and add the shrimp in a single layer down the center; scatter the lemon rounds over everything and drizzle with the garlic butter.
  6. Return the pan to the oven and roast until the shrimp are opaque, pink, and curled into a loose C shape, reaching an internal temperature of 145°F, 6-8 minutes.
  7. Remove from the oven, drizzle with the lemon juice, and scatter the parsley over the top.
  8. Toss everything gently right on the pan to coat the shrimp and asparagus in the garlic butter; taste and season with more salt if needed. Serve immediately.
